Senior placement services
Memory care placement help in Arizona.
CareWise helps Arizona families compare memory care options — dedicated memory care communities and smaller care homes — around how the person lives each day, plus cost and current availability.
We provide placement guidance, not a diagnosis or treatment recommendation. Involve the treating professionals when needs are unclear or changing.

What we look at with each memory care option
- Support — how daily care, redirection, and routines are handled.
- Safety arrangements — how the setting is secured and how wandering and falls are managed.
- Staffing — caregivers per shift, including overnight, and whether overnight staff are awake.
- Routines — meals, activities, and structure through the day.
- Cost — base rate, care charges, and what the assessment may change.
- Current availability — which settings have an appropriate opening now.

Describe the day and the night
Tell us what assistance is needed with meals, personal care, medications, communication, sleep, and moving around. Share relevant concerns such as leaving a safe area, distress, or difficulty accepting assistance through the authorized intake process. Avoid putting detailed medical narratives into a public contact form.
Ask what the provider can actually support
A secured area or the phrase “memory care” does not answer all of those questions. Ask the provider to explain the actual plan for the person.
| Area | Useful questions |
|---|---|
| Staff experience | What preparation and supervision support the staff caring for this resident? |
| Daily routine | How is the day adapted to the person's interests and abilities? |
| Distress or behavioral concerns | What can staff manage, when do clinicians become involved, and what are the limits? |
| Overnight needs | Who responds and what assistance is available? |
| Mobility and personal care | Can the setting support the person's assessed needs and equipment? |
| Family communication | Who provides updates, and how are changes raised? |
| Changing needs | What would prompt another assessment or a discussion about a different setting? |
Keep dignity and preference in the decision
Include the prospective resident as much as possible. Consider familiar routines, preferred foods, social preferences, language, privacy, and meaningful activities. A tour should help you understand daily life, not only the building's presentation.
For a short dementia respite stay while a caregiver travels or recovers, see respite care placement.
Understand the price and its limits
Ask whether the quote includes the assessed support, how additional services are priced, and whether future changes could affect cost or continued residence. Do not assume every home or dedicated memory-care area can support every dementia-related need.
How CareWise helps
We help organize the search, compare the provider's information, and prepare tours. Clinical assessment and provider acceptance remain separate decisions. Use the tour checklist or the Arizona guide.

Frequently asked questions
- What should we ask a memory care provider?
- Ask about staffing on each shift (including overnight), caregiver training, how the team responds when someone is upset or tries to leave, medication support, and what would lead to a move-out.
- Can a smaller care home provide memory care?
- Some Arizona assisted living homes serve residents living with dementia. Capabilities vary, so we confirm what each home states it can support and help you compare it with larger memory care communities.
- How is memory care cost determined?
- Most providers set the final monthly price after their own assessment. We gather current quotes so you can compare, but the provider's written offer after assessment is what counts.
- What if discharge from a hospital or rehab is coming soon?
- Call us. We can help identify settings with current availability and coordinate provider assessments quickly. Timelines depend on the provider's assessment, and we can't guarantee admission.

Arizona families often compare dedicated memory care centers with smaller residential assisted living homes that serve residents with dementia. ALTCS may help eligible residents with care costs — eligibility is determined by AHCCCS, not CareWise.
